Made Awake-Baby Harbor | Sarah Gray Photography, Tallahassee, FL Newborn Photographer

I’ve been holding onto this beautiful session for a while. I photographed Sarah and Harbor a few months ago and was completely honored when my favorite motherhood online publication accepted my submission for a feature on their blog. It’s such a stunning session and I’m so excited to be among such a beautiful collection of motherhood photographers with a likeminded heart for motherhood and its role.

Please go take a look at my feature on their site and then get lost in all the beauty that The Fount Collective shares.  I share my heart for photographing motherhood there and I’d love for you to read it all. Here’s a tid-bit:

“I am passionate about photographing motherhood because I am passionate about the sacred roles of motherhood. Something miraculous happens in our hearts when we have a baby to call our own. A part of us is made awake that seems to have been resting. A dormant, secluded section that, once aroused, quickly seeps to overflowing all other areas of our heart.”

You’ll have to visit The Fount Collective to read the rest and see more beautiful images from this session.

Baby Kolton | Sarah Gray Photography, Tallahassee, FL, Newborn Family Photography

Sweet, sweet Kolton. You are a doll baby and you are my cousin! We’ve had several new babies in our family this year and to say I’m excited doesn’t do it justice. Round little face, chubby chubby cheeks. I could kiss them all day. I take photos of baby’s toes at every newborn session I do. They are so small, so fully, perfectly formed. Baby toes, and the little wrinkles on the bottoms of their feet just leave me in awe. So much detail. So much perfection in such a small part.  If such care was taken on such an unnoticed detail, imagine the planning that went into the character of each child. I’m amazed every time.

For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.” -Psalm 139:13-16

Newborn Baby Abigail, Studio Session | Sarah Gray Photography, Tallahassee, FL Newborn Family Photographer

This little girl was just shy of one month old when we took these last week. Her mama is a longtime friend of mine and Abigail is baby number three, and girl number one to join this amazing family. Photographing these two amazing and beautiful ladies was a blessing. Kelli, you’re beaming with joy. Abigail is a precious jewel.

This was also one of the first sessions photographed in my new STUDIO! I’m just a little excited. I’d love to photograph you in it. Be on the lookout for open house info in the coming weeks!

Baby K | Sarah Gray Photography, Tallahasssee, FL Newborn Lifestyle Photographer

This was a hearty session for me to photograph. I’ve known Sarah since she was in high school and she interned with the middle school youth group at our church when my husband (boyfriend at the time) was the youth pastor. It now seems like a lifetime ago. She and her amazing husband welcomed their first baby into the world in June and he is perfection. I am loving watching Sarah become a mother.

Baby Alexis | Sarah Gray Photography, Tallahassee, FL Newborn Family Photographer

This tiny joy was photographed last year as part of a personal project for me and her mama wins an award for her patience in getting these photos from me. I’ve been wanting to re-learn film photography and the talented, Shannon from Mi Amore Foto, worked on this session with me. I’ve been chicken and haven’t sent those rolls of film into the lab yet. Those images will be shared when I finally get the courage to see how they turned out. With her help, I’m sure they’re fine. I’m just nervous. In the meantime, here are the images I took with my digital camera. They are so so lovely. My oh my do I love photographing babies!

On another note, I have been asked recently about tips for photographing your own kids so I’m toying with the idea of offering a class to share some of that info as well as teach mamas how to use their fancy big cameras to their fullest so really take great, legacy type pictures that only a mama can take of all the day-to-day happenings in a house. In the meantime, you can check out this post from my archives with a few tips.

Full Hands

This role of Motherhood is so much more powerful and beautiful than we all believe.  Can you remember being small and scared and just knowing that everything would be okay if you just had your mom?  It’s so much that mothers do, and so much that they are that makes them and their role so beautifully necessary.  This series, a new mother beaming with joy for the little ones she’s surrounded with, so in her role, arms full of squirming, crying babies. I’m overwhelmed by it.  If you’ve had the occasion to be in her role, you may be overwhelmed too.  I find this series of images so powerful and moving.

Christina, thank you for allowing me to photograph another beautiful baby boy.

Mother’s Day, 2015

Happy Mother’s day to the mommies celebrating their first mother’s day with a new baby. Some of these little ones made their mama’s a mommy this year, while others of them helped make it sweeter by joining their siblings. To each of the mom’s represented here, for all you do: the diapers you change, the tears you wipe, the tummies you fill, cuddles you give, sweet shampoo you rub gently onto tiny soft heads, pacies you find in the dark, cheeks you stroke, socks you match, and the bounce-and-sway motion you’ve adopted in everyday life… your little ones are learning to trust you, to love you. You’re doing amazing work and I hope you are told it often. You are incredible, mama.

Happy Mother’s day.

And because I’m a sappy mess this year with a new little one of my own, I’m celebrating all those milestones along with you. As my mother’s day gift to you, please enjoy 50% off any purchases from your newborn, baby plan, maternity, or family session gallery taken in 2014/2015. If you’re gallery is no longer active, I’ll gladly reactivate it so you can take part in this gift. Email me at sarah@sarahgray.net and let me know which gallery you’d like to order from.

*Mother’s day sale good until midnight, May 13, 2015.

Reider Gray, 2 weeks old

Okay, so… my little family welcomed our own little newborn into our fold just four weeks ago.  In true “newborn mom” style, I am just now getting around to sharing some of the pictures from my “big camera” that I took of him at two weeks old.  I, like so many of my clients, want to remember all of the little tiny details of my sweet baby boy.  There are sure to be more pictures of him as we grows.  We are so in love and are trying to take it all in and remember each sweet smell and each passing phase.  I am, myself, reminded that it all goes much too quickly.

Baby D’s Newborn Session

Sarah Gray Photography - Tallahassee Newborn Photographer

Handsome little baby D was just a week old when I went to his house to photograph him.  He was squishy, sweet, and adorable and his mommy and daddy are so in love with him.
